CHECstra Tween

CHECstra Tween Tuesdays offers a mixture of academic development and skill building for 9-12 year old homeschoolers. CHECstra students learn about unit-based academic subjects through various interactive lesson formats including problem-solving games and hands-on projects. Tweens practice organizational, study, communication, and research skills as part of this cooperative and encouraginglearning pod. The CHECstra program is a popular choice for CHEC students looking for more opportunities to learn together!

Learning happens best when our needs are met. LifeLab is aimed at giving students the tools they need to feel successful in life. Areas of focus may include: social emotional education,
physical fitness, cooking, cleaning, field trips and more!

Winter Focus: Virginia Studies - Post-Reconstruction
We had a great fall season studying VA geography and history through the Reconstruction. This Winter, we will expand on this study and learn about modern VA history and economics following the Civil War. Students will use maps, videos, discussion, books, interactive escape rooms, and more in class.

Winter project: Famous Virginian Skits
This portion of the day will cover project-based study where students work collaboratively with
support from adult project guides.

Winter Book Club ·The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Our book club serves as a common point of conversation in our community. Reading will be completed at home, pacing will be suggested as a guide but students may move at their own pace. We end every term with a Book Club Party!

CHECstra Tween runs from 10-2. Students may be dropped off and picked up during AM and PM Flex times. Note that this is time instructors use to set up and clean up, so students joining for flex time are expected to be helpful.
