Lavender helps us relax, but did you know it can also cool a sunburn? And while oregano is great on a pizza, it can also help ward off a cold? In this course, we'll look at many different herbs and their uses. Students will keep a plant journal with sketches, notes, and recipes. Each week we'll make an herbal creation to complement the herbs we study, such as salve, bath salts, tea blends, syrup, lip balm and at least one edible treat such as veggie dip or pizza. We will sow seeds and grow some herbs too. And we'll play the cooperative game Wildcraft at least once to further our learning!
Instructor: Laura Henley
Laura Henley is a homeschooling Mom to three girls. Laura has a B.S. in Horticulture from Virginia Tech, as well as a Professional Certificate in Landscape Design from the University of Richmond. In addition to her passion for plants and gardens, she enjoys art, painting, embroidery, nature, reading, gaming, snow sports, water sports, and spending time with her family. Laura also teaches kids at the Central Virginia Learning Community in Palmyra, VA, She has been involved with the CHEC community since 2019 as a parent, volunteer, officer, and now teacher
